Genre

General
1) Why did you choose the text you are analysing?
The reason that I chose stranger things text is because it really stands out to me for example the San Serif        text really catches the viewers eye.
2) In what context did you encounter it?
I was recommended the show by all my friends and after watching it I immediately became a big fan of the show and binge watched the rest of show.
3) What influence do you think this context might have had on your interpretation of the text?
When i was told about the show i was told that it was a family show but it did have a bit of horror to it     however.when i saw the text i was 100% sure that it would be horror because of the colour scheme which was   black and red.
4) To what genre did you initially assign the text?
Initially I assigned the text to a family friendly TV show with a bit of horror and mystery because this is what   my teacher had told me and this is what all my friends had told me too.
5) What is your experience of this genre?
My experience with the genre of horror is actually a lot because i enjoy the thrill of watching a horror movie   because of all the turns and the mystery. I am a huge fan of Stephen Kings horror books and movies such as IT.6) What subject matter and basic themes is the text concerned with?
The text straight a way gives of a horror vibe because of the San Serif text and as i mentioned before the red and black colour scheme gives of a horror vibe especial the darkness around the Title.
7) How typical of the genre is this text in terms of content?
In terms of content I would still say that this genre is horror because of the overall narrative of the show for example a boy goes missing and the narrative is to figure out who took him and why.
8) What expectations do you have about texts in this genre?
The expectations that I have about the text in this genre are the same as the title for example i expect them to be along the same line as the title which is a San Serif text.
9) Have you found any formal generic labels for this particular text (where)?
The formal generic label for this text is San Serif I know this because I recognise that all the letters are joined together and the capital letters have a pointy edge to them.10) What generic labels have others given the same text?
Others have agreed with me that the text is San Serif because it is widely recognisable and people can tell straight away that it is San serif.
11) Which conventions of the genre do you recognise in the text?
The main convention that stands out to me are definitely the colours for example the colours that are being used ( red and black) are associated with horror especially red which is associated with blood.
 12) To what extent does this text stretch the conventions of its genre?
To me it doesn't really stretch the conventions of its genre because it is short and snappy and it really stands out as a horror TV show.
13) Where and why does the text depart from the conventions of the genre?
The text departs from the conventions of the genre because it could have used a better font that is more recognised with horror. San serif is more associated with power and dominance.14) Which conventions seem more like those of a different genre (and which genre(s))?
The San Serif texts reminds me off a genre which is more about power and strength than horror and mystery. although the colour of the texts makes up for the San Serif.
Mode of address
1) What sort of audience did you feel that the text was aimed at (and how typical was this of the genre)?
I feel that the text was aimed at a teenage audience not too young or old this is because there is no actual blood used however the colour red represents blood.2
) How does the text address you?
This text addresses me as horror mainly because of the colour that is being used in the poster  and also because of how the text is presented.
3) What sort of person does it assume you are?
It assumes that i am the sort person who enjoys watching horror movies and TV shows and am mature enough to watch the show although there is no graphic images.
4) What assumptions seem to be made about your class, age, gender and ethnicity?
The assumptions made about class is that i am middle class, ethnicity is probably that i am white and age would probably around 15, 16, 17
.5) What interests does it assume you have?
It assumes that i have an interest in horror movies and TV shows and that i am a mature person I say this because San serif is a text used with mature people.
Relationship to other texts
1) What inter-textual references are there in the text you are analysing (and to what other texts)?
The main text on screen is "Stranger Things"  the text is written in San Serif and it takes up most of the page in fact it is really the only thing on the page. It is outlined in red.
2) Generically, which other texts does the text you are analysing resemble most closely?
Another text that my texts resembles is Doctor Strange the way that they are both written is very simple and they both look like they are San serif.
3) What key features are shared by these texts?#
The key features in the texts are that they are both San serif and they are both written similarly.
4) What major differences do you notice between them?
The only real major difference is that they are both different colours one is gold and one is a dark black

Semiotics: icon, index, symbol blog task

1) Find three examples for each: icon, index and symbol. Provide images or links.

Icon:Image result for skull symbol
The Skull and cross bones represent death and danger so this means that when someone sees this they will be able to understand that there is danger ahead or dangerous items in a product.

Index:

Symbol:

2) Why are icons and indexes so important in media texts?

Icons and indexes are important because they show what the image stands for so that the business can get a image across too their audience but you have to make sure that the image doesn't portray the wrong image because this can be disastrous for the business.
3) Why might global brands try and avoid symbols in their advertising and marketing?

Sometimes when there are symbols in the poster they can be misinterpreted for something else and sometimes that will spark something in the customers which makes them really angry if the symbol comes across as rude or inappropriate it can be a disaster for the business because it makes them look really bad

4) Find an example of a media text (e.g. advert) where the producer has accidentally communicated the wrong meaning using icons, indexes or symbols. Why did the media product fail?
bad ads starbucks
The reason that this advertisement failed is because it gave of the wrong image to all its customers. The cups too viewers look like the famous world trade centres which collapsed. The grass around the image looks like buildings and the dragonfly that is seen in the background looks like a plane which is heading straight towards the cups.

5) Find an example of a media text (e.g. advert) that successfully uses icons or indexes to create a message that can be easily understood across the world.

From the message continuous quality is quality you trust we can tell that because coke always produce to the best of their ability and never fail to impress you can always trust them therefore their quality is always contentious

Media makeover

I have made have made half my video black and half my video white. This can make the video more spooky and add more mystery. White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. Black is associated with power, fear, mystery, strength, authority, elegance, formality, death, evil, and aggression, authority, rebellion, and sophistication. This will give the video two sides  and show the positives as well as the negatives. Also throughout the video the light goes from black to white it dips in and out which is a good effect for the video. also the music is really creepy and eerie which adds mystery to the video.
